Songstress?

So, you guys remember that I am a song writing genius, right?

Who can forget such hits as, "We're goin to the ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and "We're gonna ride a HORSE!!"  I know, right?  Well, many have asked where I got my song writing skills.  I am sad to say (for the rest of you hoping to acquire such skills) that they are genetic.

I give you Ma Bishop's song "N-I-C-O!"

Headed to Pensacola Catholic for the Regional Semifinal game tonight.  Hope we win.

Love you all.

Yes!

So because our sitter cant watch Nico this week and because we are on the road to Pensacola on Friday (four hours away) we decided to bring Ma Bishop up to Tallahassee to help with Nico.  The legislative session is going on now, so Dave and I just cant deal with the no childcare situation... so Ma Bishop is here.  Yay!!  Although I did just spend the last 12 hours driving and have yet to be asleep today.  You probably know how this is going to end- with me being a cranky beast!!

Other than that, not much new is going on.  We beat Bay Tuesday night (which is why we are still alive to travel to Pensacola on Friday).  We are just about the last public high school that is still alive, so that is cool.  I have also been talking to the Tallahassee Democrat a bunch... Wakulla is all up in the paper lately!!

I have also been turned onto the idea of time shares.  I think Dave and I need to buy one.  Apparently they are really cheap now.  I think I'd like 10-16 weeks of time shares... all over the world.  Wouldnt that be cool?  That way, I could afford my 4-8 weeks at the beach every summer... thrown in a ski week in January, plus the week between Christmas and New Years... maybe even Thanksgiving week somewhere?  Hell yes!!

All for now.  Going to get some sleep.

Championship game.

So, we won last night, which means that we are playing in the district championship game today.  While we did beat the team we are playing tonight twice during the regular season, once by three goals and once by five, I am kinda nervous.  A little listless- I'd say.  I dont really want to work, dont really want to be home.  Ihave no go explanations for this.

So no matter what happens tonight, we will be playing next Tuesday.  Who and where though, remain to be seen.  If we win tonight, then we will play at home.  If we lose then we will go to either Bay County (in Panama City) or Pensacola Catholic, depending on who wins that game tonight.  It is projected that PC will beat Bay, which means that we will likely host Bay next week.

Either way, its definitely the end of the season- while I dont want us to lose, I am looking forward to getting my life back.  Also, I need to put some QT in the office.  I havent gotten S$&T done since the season started.  I am sitting on two articles that need to be revised and resubmitted, not to mention a crap ton of stuff that needs to be done on the grant project I am working on.  For some reason, I seem to be having some sort of career crisis, where I dont want to do any of the things I really need to/should do.  I might just be really tired and worn out.

Plus, the house is a disaster.  I cant even imagine what our baby sitter thinks of us.

I am absolutely, positively not committing to do anything that requires a massive time committment from Feb-May.  I hope to work out, run, play soccer and hang out with Nico.  And maybe a little travel.  Between Dave and me, we have three bikes none of which is in good repair. I'd like to get one of them working so that I can take Nico for bike rides... as much as I would like to bike around town with Nico- I am really nervous about riding on streets with cars, even in bike lanes, just because Tallahassee drivers are notoriously BAD.

Dave and I are thinking about a trip to Carolina for skiing.  And by skiing, I mean, Dave skiing and Nico and I hanging out, getting in the snow.  I found a super cheap VRBO in Boone where we could go, which would be cool.

Home sick.

Nico was home sick today.  While he was a peach- trying to get anything done with a kid home is sort of like shoveling snow while it is still snowing.  Except, in Nico's case, its like trying to remodel a house in the middle of a tornado.  Like seriously, what the hell?

In any case- I have been saving some of his Christmas presents for just such a day.  Behold- a new set of drum sticks:

It totally made his day.

Hitting...

Nico is saying some funny stuff lately.  Dave just came in from giving Nico a bath and said that Nico started a sentence with, "Back when I was a little boy..."

Also, we were at the grocery today and Nico kept grabbing things to put them in the cart.  When I explained, "No, Nico, we don't need any soda today," he responded with, "Actually, we do need some more soda" or "Actually, we do need some donuts."  In all, it's pretty great.

Here is a video that I took of Nico this evening.  We are going through a loverly hitting phase.  He surprised me with a slap in the face this morning.  Awesome.  And, in case any one was wondering, I didn't deserve it.

I think I got hit with a 24 hour bug, because from Sunday night to Monday night, I felt just awful.  No appetite and tired.  I think I layed in bed so much that it made my ribs sore.  Is that possible?  Then today, when Nico and I were napping, Dave came home from the gym and started working out in the back yard.  He was hammering on a pole that he nailed Nico's basketball goal to when a swarm of weapons grade bees got him.  We think this is the same posse of bees that got Nico a couple of weeks ago.  Dave managed to escape with only a sting or two.

Other than that- we are winding the season down.  We found out today that our big center back- who got hurt at the Chiles tournament is going to be out for another 4 weeks- which means that her season and career is basically done.  Its hard to think about, since she has been such an integral part of the team since she was a freshman.  We have the district play off this week and assuming that we are playing in the championship game, we will have at least one game next week.  If we win the district championship game, then we will host next week's game, if we lose the championship game, we will go on the road to either Pensacola Catholic or Bay Co, after I shoot myself in the face.  We have a really good shot at winning next week, which will put us in regional semifinals- which is the Elite 8.  I am very hopeful, because I think next year will be a bit of a re-building year.

It's been this way for 6 years- but I sorta can't believe that the season is about to end.  Its good though- I can always tell when we get to this point in the season.  I am pretty short with Dave and the girls- and I forget what I have verbalized and what I haven't- so then I get annoyed when they dont remember the 43579348573498 things I have told them about ___________.

Turkish Caillou

Quick post today.

We let Nico watch episodes of Caillou on Youtube.  He usually watches 2-3 at night before he goes to bed (they are usually 6-8 minutes long) and some in the morning.  I really try to limit how much he watches during the late afternoon/early evening when we get home.  But you gotta love this:  There is an episode of Caillou in Turkish.  Its the episode where they play soccer.  We havent been able to find the english version, which is unfortunate.  Nico asked today, "Can I watch the turkish soccer Caillou?"  Total WIN!!

Also, I made this last night:

I have been hunting around for sheet metal to go in the frame.  I didnt want to be a large amount of it, because I only needed a little.  Plus the frame is a weird size... I went to Home Depot thinking that they would have some.  They did, but couldnt cut it to size... because I am not trying to buy shears to cut that. But then I went to an ACE hardware.  They totally hooked me up.  I spray glued the fabric on top of the metal, put in a frame and hung.  Then I hot-glued magnets to my make up and stuck them on the board.  Very impressed with myself.  Hoping I can get all my makeup off the back of the toilet.

I prolly should have put the fabric in there the other way, but I don't care.   I just continue to be impressed with myself.  Of course, I still cant crochet worth a damn... but I guess one thing at a time, right?

I am also reading the Harry Potter series.  I have been reading them at night, when I put Nico to bed.  I am half way through the third one.  Not bad so far.

EPIC FAIL

So, I owe you a blog post explaining about the EPIC fail that was potty training.

Nicole sent me an e-book that she used to teach potty training to Max and Emme.  The book swore that any child could be potty trained at the age of 22 months.  Well, Nico is older than 22 months.  So I figured I had this in the bag.

No.  That would be a no.

I knew 10 minutes after we put underwear on Nico that this wasn't going to go well... Fifteen minutes into potty training  and we were on the third pair of underwear.

"What were you doing wrong, Jessi?"  Answer: I have NO FREAKING CLUE.

One of the main components of this method of potty training is that you tell them, "Nico, remember to tell me when you have to go potty, okay?"  "Nico, remember when you have to go potty, you gotta tell me, so we can go and you can get a toy car."  He peed twice while I was sitting right next to him.  I grabbed him and ran him into the bathroom so that he could finish on the potty... but he didn't want to.  And I dont want him to end up with any weird bathroom complexes, so I didnt want to force the issue.

So, I pressed on.  But the straw that ended it all was after nap.  He woke up from nap having peed, which is was expected.  I took him into the bathroom to get him cleaned up.  I asked him if he had to go potty and he said no.  I suggested, he, let's try sitting on the potty anyways, just in case.  He was adamant that he didn't have to.  This seemed reasonable given that he just peed during nap.  So he's cleaned up and we are hanging out in the bathroom.  I am sitting on the edge of the tub and I am telling Nico that when he goes pee on the potty, he will get a car.  Blah, blah, blah.  Guess who pees?  REALLY?  SERIOUSLY?

These events put together impressed on me that Nico is not ready to potty train.  Little man needs to grow up a little and stop fighting me on everything before we try this again.

What is really funny about the whole thing is that he "gets it".  He knows that he will get a matchbox garbage truck when he goes.  He even offered Dave a car for going on the toilet.  He's just a little stubborn right now.  Hopefully we'll get him potty trained before he goes to highschool.

Not dead.

Hi all!!  Things have been busy... we're not dead.  Just busy.  I have started like three different blog posts to sum up new years but never got to finishing... bleh.  Hopefully I can get caught up this weekend.

Love.
